Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information MarketPulse (the “Service”, “we”, “us”) collects about you, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to everyone who uses the Service.
1. Information we collect
We collect only what is needed to run the Service:
- Account: your email address and, if you sign in with Google, your Google account identifier and basic profile fields (name, avatar picture — not stored unless you choose to use them).
- Profile: optional display name, avatar emoji, country, and city that you provide.
- Quiz activity: your attempts, answers, scores, time per question, streaks, and friend connections.
- Billing: if you subscribe, Stripe (our payment processor) collects your payment details and shares a customer identifier and subscription status with us. We do not see or store your card number.
- Technical: standard server logs (IP address, user agent, request timestamps) kept for security and debugging. We do not use analytics or advertising cookies.
2. How we use it
- to deliver the daily quiz, track your progress, and compute leaderboards and streaks;
- to authenticate you and keep your account secure;
- to process payments and manage subscriptions;
- to debug problems, prevent abuse, and improve the Service;
- to send transactional messages (sign-in links, billing receipts) — we do not send marketing emails.
Our legal bases (where GDPR applies) are: performance of our contract with you (quiz and billing), legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention), and your consent (anything optional).
3. Who we share it with
We use a small number of trusted processors who handle data on our instructions:
- Supabase — database and authentication hosting;
- Google — OAuth sign-in, if you choose it;
- Stripe — payment processing and subscription management;
- Anthropic — used server-side to generate quiz questions from public news sources; user data is not sent to Anthropic.
- Hosting / CDN — our hosting provider (e.g. Vercel) serves the Service and processes request logs.
We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose data if required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights and safety of users or the Service.
4. Leaderboards and friend features
If you choose to appear on leaderboards or connect with friends, your display name, avatar, country/city (if provided), and score are visible to other users of the relevant leaderboard. If you don't want to appear, don't set a display name or connect with others.
5. Cookies and local storage
We use strictly necessary cookies and local storage to keep you signed in and to remember your session state. We do not use analytics, marketing, or third-party advertising cookies.
6. International transfers
Our processors operate in multiple regions, including the United States and the European Union. Where personal data is transferred outside your country, we rely on each processor's standard safeguards (such as EU Standard Contractual Clauses).
7. Data retention
We keep account and quiz data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where we need to keep records for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention reasons. Server logs are kept for up to 30 days.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, email the address below. You can also complain to your local data-protection authority.
9. Security
We use HTTPS everywhere, store data with reputable providers, and limit access to production systems. No system is perfectly secure; please notify us promptly if you suspect your account has been compromised.
10. Children
The Service is for users 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be flagged by updating the “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, by in-app notice.
